Visual Art Curriculum
Finley Junior High
2017- 2018
Grades 6-8
6th Grade Focus: In sixth grade, students will continue to build their skills and knowledge in art vocabulary, drawing, printmaking, collage, and painting. We begin by exploring what art is and who makes it, what it means to be mindful in art, and ways that artists create through class critiques, examining contemporary and historical art, and learning new processes. Art history, art appreciation, problem solving, and critical thinking are integrated into all lessons. Students will strengthen their writing and presenting skills through documenting their art making process and composing artist statements for a digital art portfolio.
